10 1/2 year old Pom not acting himself

My dog was recently diagnosed with an ar infection as well as arthritis. I took him to the vet and he was prescribed meds for ear infection and Rymadyl. I gave him all of the meds for ear infection and Rymadyl for about 20 days. He still was not acting right so I took him back to the Vet on 07-04-11. The vet said tha he got into something and that he need to put him on IV. He was given antibotics and released later that day. I have since stopped giving him the Rymadyl because of concerns that I had read about on the internet. He is still not acting himself. Someday he acts better then others. Could it be possible that he is acting this way because he is getting old and does not want to be bothered or could it be some health issue. Oh and he no longer wants much to do with me just my husband. I have been the one that has had to give him his meds and ear wash.

dogs reactions to you

The dog could be not so happy because you are the one who had to do the nasty stuff to him. They kind of resent that. Rimidyl is just for pain. I only give it when needed. last night my older doggie stepped on a bee and the little foot swelled right away and she wouldn't step on the foot. I gave her a half a pill if Rimidyl to settle her down and get her to sleep. This morning she is OK. Your doggie may be just starting to have some effects of old age also. Arthritus can be quite hard on them. My older dog is now 15 and she is slowing down alot and wants to nap very much in the daytime now. I don't expect her to be with us much longer. She had a very serious accident when she was 1 1/2 years old and I think that took years from her. If your dog doesn't seem to be in pain I would say to just go with the flow and enjoy whatever it can do. You might try one more opinion from a second vet because your dog is still not very old. Good luck to you.
