My Pomeranian is a little over two years old. Her butt is sort of fluffy but that's about it. I think she's half Chihuahua. We got her from a pet store that said she was full bred, and she was fluffy as a puppy. Do you think she's a Pomchi and not fully Pom? Or is there a way to make her fluffy?

by: Anonymous

I have a year old pomchi that someone gave me when she was a puppy so i started doing research i have seen pics of ones that look just like your pom. but i recently came across a dog that looked like yours i thought was a pomchi and it turned out to be a long hair chihuahua.

I most definitely do love her, probably more than is healthy. :) The hair on her butt is also longer, as another commenter had said of hers. I cannot afford a DNA test, as others have suggested. It's really not that important to me, I was just curious.

fluffless...

I was going to suggest the same thing- get a DNA test. I work at Petco, and besides a vet, you can actually get the same test through us for ever so slightly cheaper. I am betting your dog is pom-chi. Looks identical to my friend's pom-chi. SUPER cute!! You never can trust what pet stores say, since most buy their puppies from puppy mills so they could be any breeds mixed in there, really. I love pom-chis, I have a pom now, but when I find him a buddy I think it will have to be a pom-chi!! Who cares about the fluff, they are incredibly adorable!!

About the breed

I sent the message to you titled "About the Hair" and then wanted to add this info....Our dog was abandoned on the vets' doorstep...Looks somewhat like yours. See the picture of mine on the pom website with the story of Jackaranian named Buddy. Anyway I wanted to tell you we had a doggie DNA test done by our vet. He sent it in to a company and we found that our dog was Jack Russell terrior and Pom mix. The test itself is about $129 plus whatever your vet charges for doing the sample. We had a blood sample drawn but I have heard that now they can do it with a saliva swab. They can tell you the 4 most prominent breeds in your dog. We got only 2 breeds back showing that our dog was from 2 purebreds. We were sure happy to find out what he was. We also thought he was chichuachua and pom but not so...turned out jack russell terrier mixed with the pom.

Your dog must be crossed with another breed. But it is adorable. Just love it as it is. My dog is pom and jack russel terrier and it isn't real fluffy either. It is more long on its' butt end but I trim that regularly and it looks better that way. Just love it alot...it looks to be a real lovey dovey dog.
