Biting Pomeranian puppy

by Sonia Garcha

My Pomeranian puppy is 13 weeks and keeps chewing on hair and peoples faces! How do I make her stop? She is so adorable and we want to hug her but she makes my 9 year old sister cry when she pulls her hair! Thank you for your help!

Don't be discouraged. Puppies like to bite so make sure you have plenty of fun toys for your puppy to bite on. They also go through teething so be sure to discourage your puppy with commands like "NO" and then give him his own toys to bite on. Be consistent and teach your sister to discourage the behavior as well. You can also yelp a hurt sound everytime he nibbles. I have a 7month old pom who use to snap/bite at my son's face. I thought my son to discourage the behavior and be consistent and assertive otherwise the puppy will think he's the leader of our pack. Read up on pomeranians temperament and behavior. They like to be in charge so you have to make sure he knows you are the leader of his pack. Good luck.

biting hair

Give the puppy some hairy toys to play with and it will learn to bite on them and not on people. All puppies like to bite. When it bites on people make a squeel sound like it hurts you. This is how they learn not to bite their siblings when they are in the pack. If you seperate them from the pack they must learn these things from humans. They instictively know what hurting sounda like..so have everyone squeel when hurt and immediately give the dog the hairy toy to play with instead. Then it will have something to transfer the biting onto. Good luck...it worked for me...Mary
