Dog Sitting & Behavior Change

We are dog sitting for my son's pomeranian. My son has been gone for about a week and I spend alot of time with him. He is either with me or my secretary in our office - he goes for walks with us maybe 3 times during the day or whenever he let's us know he has to go out. He has been very excitable for the past week. But yesterday he seemed more calm - had eatin and regular bowel movement. Now today he is not eating breakfast - had a regular bowel movement this AM, but wants to sleep. Are we walking him too much? Could he miss my son? Should we take him to the vet? Would appreciate any help. Thanks, Grandma
