Drooping Tail in Pomeranian

by Tanya

All of a sudden he is holding his tail down... could this be a cause of sickness? I can't even put it up. It's not broken and he doesn't look like he is in any pain... it's weird... Has anyone seen this in a Pom? He is 12.

Drooping tail

My 6 yr old pom walks around with his tail down when he thinks he needs a bath. Give him a bath and that tail goes up!

Down Tail
by: Karen

My Pom will do this if he has a tummy ache. I can usually tell now after having him for 2 yrs (rescue)when his tummy is icky. I give him a 1/2 dropper full of Pepto Bismal. He is about 6 yrs old and 6 pounds. 2 hours after the pink stuff, which he doesn't like, his tail is back up!! I know his tummy is bad when I can actually hear it making sounds. This usually happens after a car ride in the winding mountain roads or too many cookies :):)

Pomeranian drooping tail

My old Pomeranian Gus (approx 16) developed a drooping tail for no apparent reason. He seemed fine in himself and 2 days later, it righted itself, again for no resaon we could see. Good luck with your pom.

Downtail

This sometimes occurs if they have injured their neck. Buffy is just now starting to hold hers up again since her neck injury in November last year. You may want to take him to the vet but PLEASE make sure the vet is experienced and will NOT TWIST AND TURN THE NECK UNLESS AND XRAY HAS BEEN TAKEN FIRST! That is how BUffy was paralyzed. A vet twisted and turned and ripped the nerve in her neck. He did not do an xray on it first or he would have seen the injury. Always make sure your vet is also a neurologist or in the study as well as having the regular degree.

I learned my lesson, and with God's miracle, Buffy can now walk on all four legs again, wobbly, but on all fours. Praying for your pup, hope it is nothing serious but get it checked out. It could also be a stool issue, again, vet. God bless you and your furbaby, Sheila
