Ebony Schip-a-Pom

by Judy Hicks
(Sheboygan, Wisconsin)

Ebony is a rescue dog. I adopted her on December 6, 2007. she was picked up as a stray in Indiana. From the she was sent to Kentucky, then Illinois, and finally Wisconsin. I saw her picture on Petfinder.com.I adopted her from a rescue in Burlington, Wisconsin.

She is a very intelligent dog who knows how to get her own way with that sad look of hers. It works with everyone but me. I set more limits with her than anyone else does.

She likes walking along the lake in the summertime. She likes playing in the snow. She does not like walking in the rain and is very afraid of thunderstorms.

She has a pink winter coat since it gets cold here in Wisconsin. In the fall and spring, she wears a tee shirt.

On the personality meter, 110%
Yes, they like to bark...a lot...but always for a reason!
Energetic and athletic...loves to swim, play fetch, do laps of the yard and covets her toys
A runner for sure! Only after 5 years can I trust her off-leash for a second or two!
Good eater...loves salmon, meat of all kinds, eggs, milk, cheese but not crazy about sweet treats and dog cookies
Eats on schedule which she demands!
Fabulous watch dog, the best we've ever had!
Likes to be close and has a million kisses for us
Independent...doesn't need or particularly like other dogs
Head strong, demanding and very sure of herself
A real "talker"....has a huge vocabulary she responds to
The smartest small dog ever!
No weight issues
Has an undercoat that has to be brushed out once a month
Initially, she "blew" her coat as Schipperke's do but that has stopped with age.
Gorgeous, thick, black coat that does not tangle
Needs attention and has feelings that she displays and are very discernable. She will talk back when not allowed to do something and will always have the last word.
Long skinny legs like a pom
Full, feathery tail that lays on her back like a pom
13 pounds and twice the "wheel-base" of a pom
Big strong chest
Schipperke head and wolf-like face with elongated nose and mouth
Perfection in a small package
