First heat

My little girl Pom is in heat for the first time. She is only 6 months old and it seems to be lasting forever. I have a male Dorky and am keeping him locked up until I can get him fixed. He has an appointment on September 4th. He cries or barks almost non-stop. I swear if it doesn't stop soon I will just go crazy. I would like to become a breeder, but not yet and with another registered Pom. Can anyone tell me how long the cycle lasts even aproxamately?

Like I said it seems like she has been in heat for an awfully long time. She is swelled up and bleeding. Not real heavy though. She tries to bite him when he tries anything. At the same time I am watching a female Chichuahua that is the same size as her and she keeps jumping my Pom and going through the motions. I figured that is not hurting anyone. Except of course, my husband has a fit about it. I think it is because she is our baby. He gets mad a Shadow for trying stuff. I try to tell him that it is instinct but he just doesn't get it. The fact that Trinket will let the female jump her though makes me think he might have done something before I noticed that she was in heat. Is it possible for a Vet to check. I know he is too big and if she had his puppies they would be too big as well. I don't have a photo yet just bought a camera.
