The absolute best flea prevention is a healthy dog. The healthier the dog, the less likely the fleas will attack it. Fleas look for immune compromised animals to latch onto. I personally prefer not to use the chemicals anymore, I have heard some horror stories about how they affect animals. So this is what I would do: 1. feed a high quality diet w/ lots of moisture (great for poms anyway) 2. add a supplement called 'Bodyguard' which is healthy for your pet and has the added bonus of being a great deterrent against fleas 3. treat the environment using natural products for house (boric acid) and yard. 4. use a flea comb and bath dog My dog hasn't had fleas for years and she used to get them once or twice a year. http://cordeliathedog.wordpress.com/

Thank you so much for the prompt reply. My doctor carries Vectra at this time, and that is what I bought. That is what he recommends, but at time I feel he is not updated on the latest products in the market.

flea prevention by: Mary
I used to use K9 Advantix for our 2 dogs but they still got fleas. After this happened two years in a row I decided to change. We now use Vectra and have no more fleas. We live in the north in summer and Florida in winter. Th fleas are easier to get in Florida. But the Vectra is working good. We have small dogs. One is a rat terrior/chihuahua and the other one is jack russell/pomeranian. They are both small. One is about 14 pounds ind is 12 years old and the other is 11 pounds and is almost 5 years old. Good luck with yours. I reccommend changing meds for the fleas.

My pom does best with Frontline; but my daughter uses Advantix on her cattle dog and both are good products.
