heat

My pomeranian Molly is coming up eighteen months old and we were hoping to breed once with her around two. However, she has never had a heat. What is the typical age for first heat? Could I have missed her first heat?

Thanks in advance for any help

Heat

A female pomeranian generally comes into heat between 9-12months of age. However, it is not uncommon, especially for poms under 5lbs, to wait until 2. It is possible you could have missed it. A friend of mine didn't notice it until I went a saw her and noticed bleeding and swelling. I have never 'not' noticed one, but what you can do is check her everyday, and if you are really worried about it, consult your vet.

I had a pom once that didnt go into heat until she was 3 and she didn't have a full heat. I think it is natures way of letting us know this dog is not breedable.
