How long will the pom's adult coat grow?

My male pom is 19 months now. Could anyone out there please tell me when he will have a long nice coat? His coat is not very long cos he just had his inner coat shed during the summer. Also, he's slightly over 10 pounds. Is he a normal pom ? I bought him from a pet shop (10 weeks old) and was told he is a small size. He's quite big and tall too.

How much longer would you want it???He is absolutely adorable on the photo. My Jackaranian is 10 pounds also and his hair isn't quite as long as your dog and it is a little wavy.He is 2 1/2 years old. My dogs is colored like a fox.

A pom should ideally weigh between 4-6 lbs. It is not uncommon to see poms a bit larger pop out of a litter, so your pom is not abnormal- It's parents may have been larger. As for the coat change, that coat should have come in by now. Mine had their long coats by a year old. It could very well be possible that your dog has a bit of another breed in him (american eskimo, chihuahua, etc.) since he came from a pet store, you never really know. You can go into a vet or even Petco, and get a genetic DNA test for a small fee and really find out if your dog is a pure bred- if it matters. Also coat is affected by what you are feeding him- always feed the best, all natural foods such as "Organix" brand have no added dyes which may cause tear staining... good luck.
