My 4 mo old pom pup broke her front leg, how much activity can she have. She has started chewing carpet and barking and she is bored and neither one of us are getting our walk in.

How Much Activity for Pom with Broken Leg?
That's tough! When your dog is bored and you can't explain to them that it is all for their own good. Perhaps you are already doing this, but what I would do is get plenty of yummy stuff for your dog to chew on. Things like bully sticks, smoked (or, even better raw) bones. If it is hot where you are, there are also some frozen yogurt treats you can buy for dogs. My pom loves to eat those, frozen, right from the little cup. Also, introduce a new toy or two. It could also be a good time to practice some training! It builds confidence and could definitely help with the boredom. Wishing you all the best!
ps. my pom also happens to love catnip. I find it is a great way to distract her. I give her a cloth bag of catnip (moonbeam catnip) she plays with it for a bit and then gets very relaxed :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQVEd-5-ayQ

Broken leg by: Sheila
If you let her jump around on it she may pull the pin through the skin and break it, requiring another surgery. That's what my baby did by age 1. Get a stroller, pet strollers you can find cheap, you can take her anywhere, most malls too. You can do your walking with her, she can have a nice secure ride and you can take her food, water and treats in it, as well as potty time, stick a pad in it. OR put a diaper on her, whichever you prefer. I use pads, wad them up and toss it in the trash when she has gone in one corner of the stroller.
IF other people bother her, cover the stroller with a little baby blanket and no one will see her. You have to remember to keep her low to the ground, or in the stroller or a playpen. Buffy would have lost her leg if I had not listened to the voice of reason so now I pass it to you . PLEASE DO NOT LET HER JUMP OFF ANYTHING ANYMORE, THE LEG CAN BREAK AGAIN. SHE MAY WANT TO - DONT LET HER!
This is how it was explained to me by my vet "would you let your child jump off a 4 story building?" That's what it is like when small dogs jump off bed, chairs, couches etc, you get the idea. Depending how tall they are, that's how far they will fall when they jump.
God bless, praying she heals well, toys and chewies will be her ideal thing for a long while, walking around for a few months, then walking with you slowly short trips. I still keep Buffy in a stroller when we go out. It's safer (I take her to a secluded grassy park to let her do her walking and running around now) .
