Kahlua

I have a now almost 4 month old Shiranian (born 9/20/2009) We got her when she was about 9 weeks old. She can be VERY stubborn and bad, but with that face you just can't get mad!

Originally we had known about the puppies when they were born but decided not to get one. Later when we thought about it more, we wished we would've reserved one. Then it so happened a few days later, one got returned. (They claimed the first family was allergic to her) We brought her home and just couldn't resist her. She is the absolute cutest! All of our friend's and family can't get over how cute she is either. (In the words of one of my friends "too freakin adorable.") We love her to death, though there are 'those' days...
We're still working on potty training (for 2 months!) Which is getting me and my family frustrated. She's gotten now to the point that, AFTER she does her business in the house, THEN she runs to the door! She knows it's bad. She's very very active. Bites A LOT and nips. It was cute when she was little but she's getting a harder grip now that she's older. When we try to break her of the nipping, nothing works. If you say "NO" to her, she barks back and leaps at you to bite again. It's a game to her. Which is another thing, her excessive barking. She barks a lot. Again, if you yell "NO" or "stop" it doesn't work. She barks back, louder and it becomes an "argument!" It's almost funny... but very frustrating at times. She's the cutest hot head I've ever known! LOL... I've watched the Dog Whisperer and tried his tips for everything but nothing works. I may be her "pack leader" but SHE is her OWN boss! LOL...
It's gotten so frustrating with everything that I've contemplated several times, putting her back up for adoption... but I look at that face and just can't. She's too sweet that I just can't. I keep telling myself, she's just a puppy yet, I have to just keep working with her!
(Which I think is why the original people that took her, brought her back. The couldn't train her.)
I found out that one of our neighbor's has Kahlua's sister. Their's was potty trained shortly after they had her. I hear all these stories of well behaved, potty trained Shiranians... makes me wonder if I just got the brat! LOL...

Same Krap, Different Pile!

As all of you, we have the same issue. Gets aggressive when a toy or bone is taken away from him. Trouble potty training. Not getting along with my dog at my moms house. (mind you, its a big golden retriever who hides from the little dog.) We dont want to give him away, but it it continues with no improvement, we will have no choice. But for now, will continue training as best as we can. Another problem i did not see mentioned, is that this little guy is VERY attached to me (mamma) and im trying to break that as i think it could be why he barks so much when in his crate. Just want him to know that cuddling and loving is okay, but he has to be independent as well while we are at work. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. :) We are worried that if he continues barking so much, the neighbors (live in an appt) will be upset and complain.

Biting tips
by: SUnniva

When she bites, you can say AU! or somethings loud that makes her feel bad/sad or afraid. Then she will know that if she biotes you get hurt, and maybe she won't hurt her pack members if sahe knew that..

Excuse my english, I'm an teenager from EUrope, so c:

My Bella must be your Kahula's clone. LOL She is 14 wks old and I am having the exact same issues. I can't get her to stop biting and nipping. She thinks it's a game when I tell her no! Do you have any issues with brushing? Bella violently hates it. she acts like you are trying to hurt her and goes berzerk!

If you're desperate to get her to stop nipping, you can try paying for training sessions or sessions to tackle behavioral problems.

shitzu pom advice
by: Teresa

I trained my pomeranian with a crate. As soon as he eats or drinks he went into the crate. No matter how he screamed and cried, he wasn't let out until he eliminated. When he finished I would clap and scream and jump up and down and let him out. I knew he was going to poop when he walked in circles and I'd run him to the cage or outside.

The biting; I bought huge rawhide chicken bone much bigger than him and he loved them; also those yarn bones at walmart or target. Also, when he bit me I'd nicely close his mouth look him in the eyes and say, no.
