Max: Chinaranian

by Mae
(Illinois)

Max is 9 weeks old and his mother is a hairless chinese crested and his father is a black pom. We got him at 9 weeks old and it has only been 4 days but he has so much personality already. He weighs only 2.5 lbs and was told he will be 5-8 pounds full grown. Perfect for me since I am disabled and cannot always handle a larger breed.

He has the sweetest disposition and is very affectionate. He loves to snuggle and doesn't like being alone. He awakes EVERY time he is sleeping to follow me every where. He just loves to play with the kids and the whole family. He is not shy around strangers either which makes socialization so much easier.

I was doing great with potty training but just recently have been going through setbacks. Only problem I have is he does not like to be left in his play yard when it is night and he won't even go near his crate.

Added Bonus: he is non shedding so my husband, who is generally allergic to all animals (or so we thought) has absolutely no reaction!!

Any suggestions are welcomed!! Also if you have any other insight on this particular mix, I'd love to hear. I don't find much info on this particular mix.

Pictures are from breeder, I will post more later.

I have Max's brother from the next litter that was born 9/10/10. He has an awesome personality and so very loving. He is a hairless. His name is Buddy. He goes everywhere with me. They truly are special. I hope to get another one day.

10 years and counting with our baby
by: Alan Covell

We have had a Chinararnian (I call them Chincapoms) for 10 years. You must be */consistent/* about crate and/or diaper use. It took a houseful of carpet, but we have our girl diaper or outdoor-trained. She travels with us, with will tolerate being left alone for a day--she crawls under the covers and sleeps all day--playtime is just delayed until we get home.

Be sure to have the vet check for a luxating patella, which can be an expensive bit of surgery. Also, Crested are known for weak teeth (keep them clean) and Poms for weak knees, so make certain that when the jumping up/down starts, make sure its not down to a slippery surface, for our little girl tore her anterior cruciate ligament (Poms are notorious for this problem), which requires more surgery to put in nylon line as a replacement.

Regards,

Alan

Zoey
by: Ash

I don't know if you still check this, but I now have a beautiful Chinaranian by the name of Zoey. She is 12 weeks and looks just like Max, only she has mottled fun base brown with black and reddish. Her mom was a pure bred black pom and her dad a pure bred Chinese Crested. I wanted to talk to someone who has a Chinaranian.

max

Thank you! I didn't realize you responded and then my computer crashed. I just submitted an update, feel free to ask me any questions you may have. I just noticed on my breeders web site that Max's dad just had two more litters from 2 moms but they are pure poms. They are cute as can be but I must say, none like max. I may ask her to breed max's mom (hairless chinese crested) and one of her charles king spaniels. I saw a dog like like this the other day and they are just adorable and hypo-allergenic, which is a must for us. Hope she has some more Max's for you soon.

beautiful

This is so funny as I just emailed the seller of your beautiful baby!...I just love this puppy, looks like from your description he has the crested personality..oh well, I have had several puffs and they were all the same..they need to be with you 24/7, the only hope is another pup to keep him company I am afraid..right now I am a stay at home caretaker and my crested boy is fine as long as I bring him with me everywhere! He can not tolerate being left alone..this is a common crested trait. Also housebreaking is not easy for them no matter what you read..a doggie door was my only salvation.
I emailed the breeder to let me know next time she breeds these two as I thought the litter was fantastic! hope you keep all updated on his progress as I hope to have one in the future.
thanks for posting
