My 5 month old pet Pom has really bad diarrhea

by Pom Lover

I got her about 2 weeks ago and she is eating well now. The second night she had a hypoglycemic seizure...and I rushed her to the vet. Since then she is eating good, but has had really bad diarrhea. It is a little bloody and has had mucous in it. I took her to the vet, because I suspected coccidia, but the test was neg. We also did a parvo test which was neg. I really want to get this taken care of, because I am sure it is uncomfortable for her! Any suggestions would be helpful!

Suggestion for puppy with diarrhea
by: Kathleen

We had a dog several years ago that would occasionally get explosive diarrhea. When this happend, we would switch her to a very bland canned dog food that is specifically designed for this issue (sorry, can't remember the name now). We got the food from the vet - maybe your vet carries it, too, or try a local pet supply store. Our vet also said that a mixture of cooked plain white rice and hamburger with no seasoning or anything else is ok to feed and will help with getting the bowels back to normal.

bloody diareaha
by: Anonymous

could be the brand of food is not agreeing with the dog. When I had this myself the doc told me to do the following. these are no-no's fruits vegies coffee tea pop & juices. take in order one of the folowing every 10 min #1..1 oz plain cultured yougart#2..1 oz chicken boulion..#3..1 oz beef or chicken broth #4..1oz water Keep up the 1 oz stuff for 4 hours. Take the 1 oz stuff every 10 min. After 4 hours you eat a soda cracker wait a bit (maybe 10 min) and take a bite of meat wait a bit and a bite of cheese..only a bite at a time and remember the no-no's. You could try this for the dog..it worked for me and I had the bloody diareaha for 6 weeks before. Anything I ate went through me in 15 min. I would adjust the amounts to less for the puppy..maybe 1/4 oz or 1/2 oz. Good luck..can't hurt to try.
