My 7 week old Pom is sick

I adopted a Pom a week ago and he was behaving normally - sleeping a lot, playing, eating, etc. However, this morning I noticed his stool was red and gooey, and he seems to be napping more than normal today, as he is usually chasing after me in the morning. He did play a little, but not as much as usual. I am not sure what type of food his previous owners had him on, but I am feeding him Beneful puppy food, and I know he is still getting used to the switch in brands. He is due to have his 2nd puppy shots next week, but I am taking him to the vet this afternoon to see if everything is alright. Until then, does anyone have an idea about what could be going on?
