Coughing and Hacking
by: Anonymous

Our Pom died yesterday at 13 years old. He would act like he was chocking when he was younger after getting excited or brisk exercise. We were told of the collapsing tracea problem which was said to be common with the breed. I would massage his throat when this happened and it seemed to help some. His death was the result of an enlarged heart, heart murmer and growth on his lungs. He has been coughing and hacking for the last three years and was given various medications to increase his longivity and quality of life. Keep a check on your dogs weight as this was probably a factor in our dogs conditions. Hope this info was helpful to you.

collapsing trachea

this might be bad news but your dog might have something called collapsing trachea it is common in pomeranians.

if ur pom is making honking or coughing noises it might have collapsing trachea but it could be other things so you should bring ur pom to the vet it can be a serious health problem u can tell if it is collapsing trachea by getting an X-ray

Coughing & hacking

Hopefully, your dog has been vaccinated, but coughing and hacking could be caused by bordetella (kennel cough); could also be related to allergies, etc.. I would take him/her to your vet for diagnosis.
