My Pom doesn't bark

I recently adopted a 5 year old pomeranian who was rescued from a puppy mill. Other than some snorting when he gets excited, he hasn't made a peep. I am concerned about this lack of a bark. How would I know if he had been de-barked - which I think is a very cruel and inhumane procedure. Thanks.

Mills cut the larnyx on breeders
by: karen

Your dog sounds like a breeder if you got it from a mill they may have cut the larnyx to be able to hide there mill in crowded cities so there would be no noise. Mills like to hide in plain sight. Glad you rescued the dog. What a blessing. I used to rescue German Shephards and Pommies. Mills are so evil and so much worse on little Pommies who so long for people touches. I have a dear friend with a kennel whose indoor cages are in her actual house and no wire. She built her runs outside her home for her pommies like a mote and each Pom has its own deck. Now thats the kind of kennel you want your pommies from. Haven't seen her in years but it was always wonderful to go to her very lively and loving home.

no bark
by: Tina

my pom is 10 years old and doesn't bark much at all. i got him from a top breeder who showcased her poms. he only barks when i play with him and his baby hedge hog toy. its actually a good thing. im glad he doesn't bark all that much because that gets annoying. he's happy and has a good personality. people love being around him because he is so calm. so, im blessed to have pooh bear! :0)

I have a Shiranian (pomeranian-shih tsu) that does not bark either. He is 10 mo. old and very active. He snorts A LOT but no bark at all. Harley, one of his litter mates barks like crazy! Go figure.....we did not have any procedure done for the barking he just chooses not to.....I would not worry, if your dog had been altered you cannot change that now!
