My pomeranian Rockstar

I have a 4 year old pomeranian named Rockstar. He is the light of my life and the sweetest little guy. Unfortunatly I have recently been noticing some health issues with him. I brought him to my friends house who also has a dog. He was so excited that he started himself into a hacking fit. I thought that he would stop when we went home but it only got worse. He hacked for a few weeks straight. The vet gave me anti inflammatorys and told me he had kennel cough without even checking him out. He used to love walks and now we cannot take him outside for exercise. I thought that maybe because it was summertime and Rockstar has alot of fur that he was over heating so I had him shaved.

This seemed to help alot and Rockstar became more active again being his usual playful self. The past few days have been rough to watch. It's as if this hacking has taken a turn for the worse. I have been up with him all night long as he cannot stop hacking. He is weezing and very lethargic. I have been massaging his throat but it only seems to help very temporarily. He acts as though he is trying to throw something up but this constant hacking is a dry hack. Can somebody please give me some medical advice. I love my dog very much and it isnt easy to see my happy lushy eyed pommy like this.
