Cutting your dogs hair can not damage the production of hair, as it grows down in the layers of the skin. You would have to damage the skin by cutting or burning it to do that. Hair production has more to do with genes and diet than cutting the hair. Hair is slow to grow back, and many times the fuzzy undercoat grows in faster than the pretty outer coat, but it should be back in 6 to 12 months.

My pom always has a "lion cut." She looks like a little fox. She didn't mind losing the long hair at all.

my pomerianian doesnt act like his self by:
I regretfully shaved my pom down who is almost 3 yrs old, I brush him all the time but he was shedding all the time, Friends come by and he loves to greet them and jump up in their laps. They get hair all over them. He is a constant shedder. So after an evening out with a frind I came home and he of course wanted love. I looked down at my clothes and hair as always was all over me. I do groom small doggies so. I took him in my litle shop and I shaved him. He acts like he is not happy now. He acts like he is dissapponted,,what can I do?? Also I pray his hair grows back, I have a friend who had hers done and it growed back, but I a have read articles that say different. ''Concerned''

!/2 as nice by: Anonymous
I shaved my pom whenever needed. He is 13 now and the poor little man is not growing all his hair back. The front and middle is not as thick but still some what shiny & long. His back end is VERY thin & not so pretty. When I take him places with me, I just dress him. He has gotten a nice little ward drobe out of it. We shop at build a bear & I just cut the tail hole a little bigger. They even have boxers and overalls, haha

Don't worry about your pom when the groomer shaved ours he went around in what can only be described as a huff until it started to grow back. It seems to be normal for them to feel different but once it starts to grow back they get back to normal.

pomeranian haircuts :) by: Donna
I have a pom..shes 12 years old. When she was younger, I always got her groomed. I once tried the lion cut because of all the knots. Well, after years of getting groomed, her fur is not the same. In fact, once when I was at the vet, a groomer passed by me and noticed my dog. He said she had alopecia. Which he then told me it was because I kept getting her shaved. I thought that was interesting because he was the first person to ever groom her, and never mentioned that fact. My dog just came back from the groomer a week ago. Of course because of her condition, they shaved her. Were too rough and now, she is very uncomfortable. I hope this helps.

the dog probably feels different. Think how you would feel if you had long hair and then got it cut real short. of course it should grow back but it will take time. Give your dog a little extra love and attention till then and he will feel better about himself....Mary

pretty dog by: Debbie
I'm sure the hair will grow back and the dog will be beautiful. Sounds like the groomer took off too much hair.
