New to Poms, lots of questions.

Hi there! So we adopted a little Pom, his name's Buddy- 9 months old. Very sweet and affectionate. Well mannered, sort of housebroken but we're working on that. It's his behavior that worries me. I've noticed that he is very lethargic I've tried getting him to play and he's just not into it at all. Is this normal for this breed? I haven't heard him bark once, I'm almost wondering if he even has a voice. He is scared of everything even the wind blowing outside and sometimes cowers when I approach him or any adult for that matter. I'm hoping he just needs to get used to everything, but how long should this take and how can we help him come out of his shell. If he is in one? Also, what's good for doggy breath?
Thanks!

...The Scared Pom...
by: Anonymous

When I first got my dog (I rescued him as an adult) he was always wanting to hide under the bed and couch... So from day one.., I stopped that (closed the bedrooms doors and sealed of the couch... He had no choice but to sit around with me... after about one week.., he didn't mind sitting out with people and the cat... Brushing teeth daily helps alot with breath and also solid foods only because this breed is prone to gum disease... My lil guy like these dentasticks as well... So to make your dog feel more confident.., be around them a lot especially when they are scared... Show them that their is nothing to fear and show them their fears (literally)... It all takes time

doggie breath
by: Mary

Mine has really bad breath also. Vet says to brush teeth with doggie pastedaily and keep him on solid dog food. That will help keep teeth clean. Do not give people food. I did just a bit for a treat on top of their regular dog food and now they don't want to eat the dog food. DO NOT MAKE THIS MISTAKE!!! Good luck...
