Phantom Pregnancy - Wrong

I went to the vet on Friday night as I thought my pom was going to have puppies. He examined her then a scan which he didn't do very well. I even said to him in the scan I thought I saw feet. The vet told me my pom was not pregnant, was no where near giving birth and that in fact she was having a phantom pregnancy, and it would just go away.

I took her home and stayed with her that night. On saturday night she was panting a lot and pacing. I looked up information about the phantom pregnancy and still thought there was something wrong with her. On Sunday morning I came to her bed to find the most perfect puppy, but dead. The puppy was huge - bigger than my hand.

I feel robbed for my bitch. Was there anything I should have done? I don't want to phone the same vet again. I am so angry, but he is the only vet on the Island I stay on. Can someone please tell me how he missed this?
