Hi my pom is 5 months old but its not fluffy fluffy. I love her and how she is, but I was wondering how long the "uglies stage lasted"... because her hair used to be up. Now its flat and wavy. And when her cotton ball look is going to come out... thank you. And she is purebred.

Pom uglies
by: Anonymous

All pom pups go through what is commonly known as puppy uglies. Where their coat is not full.Pom pups often go through several coat changes before getting their final coat. My pom is two years old and has her full coat in.

The only time you should worry is if the dog is about 2-3 years old and the fur looks ratty instead of fluffy. That's usually a sign that the dog has a hair loss condition due to being inbred or just plain bad breeding.

Your dog though is still young. Give it some time.

Fluff Ball

She is still young give her time usually up to a year for her to fully fluff up and then malt it all off again, the season may be a factor my girl had a beautiful coat and has lost it due to summer.

My pom is 9mos old and half of his adult hair has grown in. I have read that it can take up to a year to a year and a half for all his adult hair to grow in. I can simpathize.
