Pom that yelps sometimes when she jumps.

I have a two year old female Pomeranian that just recently started yelping when she jumps. We have a step ladder by our bed, but she still has to jump that extra distance from the top step. A few days ago she started yelping when she would make that short jump. I started panicking and doing my research. At first I thought she may have a luxating patella, which is prevalent in Poms, but I'm hoping I ruled that out because she isn't showing any other symptoms of a luxating patella, such as limping. I even gently squeezed her legs to see if she was tender anywhere and it didn't bother her one bit. She doesn't yelp EVERY TIME she jumps, but she does sometimes. I clipped her toenails AFTER she started yelping to make sure that none were getting caught when she jumped. I've done every possible thing I can think of. A week before this started happening, she had to go to the vet to get a shot because her muzzle was swollen (we think from eating a spider or something). I'm very worried about her. I don't let her jump anymore. I pick her up and carry her everywhere so she doesn't strain herself. Has anyone ever experienced something like this before? I'm very desperate for answers, as I've been on google like a mad man for the past three days. I'm a college student so I don't have much money to go get her xrays at the vet, but if her condition stays the same or worsens I'll take her. Any ideas? Thanks.

Working with a Vet
by: Mary

Call and speak to your vet and explain that you are a student with limited funds. Ask if you can do any kind of jobs at the vet facility to help with the bill. Usually they need help of some kind..if you are not afraid of work that is not always pleasant like cleaning out pens etc. Always ask if you can barter for things. Many people do this their whole lives and it works fine for a lot of college grads that I know. You have to find what works in life and go for it. Good luck to you...but do take the doggie to the vet....no matter what. It must be suffering and the longer you wait the worse the condition can get.
