pomeranian aggression and barking

I have a two year old pomeranian,If I take him outside the house and there's a person walking in front of our house, he'll run right up between the fence and bark non-stop. Whenever I try calling him he ignores me and when try and approach him he growls back. He's never bitten anyone.

Barking

My pom does this as well. He thinks he's hot stuff chasing the invaders away. If he's in the house, he'll bark and then look at me. If I acknowledge him and that he "scared" the offensive thing away, he stops.

Pomeranian Aggression
by: Anonymous

It is normal for a Pomeranian to show some signs of possession or upset when a stranger approaches. Most Pomeranians do not like people outside of their immediate pack (household). Pomeranians have even been known to be possessive of their toys or food (mine is with food). They can be snappy sometimes. It's just in their nature.

Serious signs of aggression like biting or being so possessive of a family member (that no one can come near that person or the dog will bite) is usually signs of poor breeding.

I have a two year old pomeranian (who can be trusted off the leash - she's trained) often runs up to strangers barking like mad. Once the person turns around she comes running back to me. They like to show off that they think they are top dog.

I call her sassy....

My pom does the same thing, if the doorbell rings, that is a 10 minute ordeal (and thats if its the pizzaman or something), if she sees anyone outside in the street the barking doesnt stop until she cant see them anymore. She hates men for some reason, and forget about someone new coming in the home peacefully. I have tried everything and you can tell it is more of a fear bark, but i need to know how to stop it. Any advice would be helpful.

pomeranian aggression and barking

Try to research aggression and barking. It usually gives you techniques on how to discourage the behavior. My pom puppy started displaying aggression towards my 12 year old son at 3-4 months. We goggled it and got a lot of useful information that helped us understand the behavior and how to best discourage it. He's 9mos now and displays no aggression. He barks at anyone that comes near us or our space but it's in the pomeranian nature to protect their "persons". They are also very territorial. We were very firm with our dog whenever he displayed unwanted behavior by firmly saying "no". Other techniques were to spray him with water whenever he displayed unwanted behavior. Putting pennies in a can to create noise is another way to discourage unwanted behavior. Goggle your search theres a lot of good information out there. Good Luck!
