Pomeranian and German Shepherd
by Bob McCune
(Minneapolis, MN)
He has been gone for many years, but is still missed. He was medium-sized with long, thick fur, muzzle and ruff of the shepherd breed, curly bushy tan tail, "pants" of the Pomeranian. He was a very good looking dog, often mistaken for Chow-chow, and very aggressive and protective, with a deep resonant bark. Each spring he shed about 2 bushels of tan fur that had to be brushed out. He was very hardy, surviving car accidents and eating indiscretions and lived to 15+ when his kidneys failed. Very affectionate with family and friends, distrustful of strangers and especially strange dogs. Would not tolerate being treated as a lapdog, seemed aware that he looked like one and did not want to be one. He "fathered" a litter of kittens, bonding with one of them like he would another dog, but would attack any wild animal without provocation. He dispatched a large muskrat quite easily once.
