About Pomeranian Rescue

The mission of most Pomeranian rescue organizations is the same - to provide an unwanted, neglected or abused Pom with a good, loving home. Rescues may obtain dogs by taking in strays, rescuing them from shelters, or answering ads in the newspaper.

A responsible rescue organization will make sure a dog is examined by a veterinarian, is up-to-date on vaccinations, is tested for heartworms, and is spayed or neutered (if it isn't already).

Dogs adopted through a rescue are not usually "free", for a number of reasons. First, the rescue has probably invested quite a bit in acquiring the dog and in veterinary care to prepare them for a new home. Most rescues are non-profit. The fee they charge is almost always much less than what has been invested in the dog. Most rescues run on donations only, so a fee helps offset operating costs.

Also, if someone is willing and able to pay an adoption fee, the thought is that they will pay for the future care of the dog. An adoption fee is a financial as well as an emotional commitment, to the adopted dog.
