Pomeranian Urinating

My Pom is 8 years old and we rescued him from some less desirable breeders. Not sure how he was treated. When ever someone pets him softly he pees on them. I was thinking that he was abused, not sure what to do..

Usually urination is a marking of territory or of something the dog considers to be his. Could be he likes them and that is his way of showing it. When we got our younger dog (pom mix) he would go outside with our rat terrier female and when she would squat to pee he would raise his leg and pee on her behind. Took a long time for him to stop doing it but he just eventually stopped on his own. Are they holding h the dog when they pet it? If so maybe it would help just to pet it with it sitting on the ground instead. Good luck..Mary

Peeing Pommie
by: Sheila

Is he neutered? Sometimes it is a way for them to MARK territory. My Beagle used to go around and pee on company, other pets and me just to let us know we belonged to HIM! Check with the vet to make sure he has no urinary illness. But if he is fine, and neutered, you might try putting him on a pee pad before guests arrive,or keeping a playpen handy to put him in (pad in the pen) so he does it before he is let out to visit others. Mine go only on pee pads, and before visitors come I do this, she gets very excited when people visit and loves to see them. She used to get so excited she would poo herself. So pad first, then visit :D Hope this helps, have a blessed day, Sheila
