Pomeranian yelping all the time

My pom yelp sometimes when he is just walking, all of a sudden he yelps and reaches back for his tail/behind area. He is doing it quite often now and I have no clue why he does this. Anyone have any ideas?

Solution?
by: Jordan-Alicia

Hi there!

I came across your post here... Did you find a solution to this issue?? My Pomeranian (about 4 years old now) does the same thing.. yelping, sometimes for seemingly no reason at all.. frequently, he'll yelp, and then lick his anus area...

He's been to the vet.. she checked him physically, pretty thoroughly... she was unable to reproduce the yelping. He's been doing this since puppyhood, I should mention. Anyway, several different vets have yet to find an answer, so I wanted to see if you'd found one. Appreciate in advance any information you're able to give!

Yelping

Lay him down and examine his behind very carefully...expecially around the anus. It could have fleas. Look for any crawling fleas or any specks that look like course black pepper. If you find any black specks and want to know if this is flea poop take a Q-tip and soak it in rubbing alcohol and wipe the specks with that. If if turns red then it is flea poop. You can also kill the flea by puttting the Q-tip with alcohol on it and holding it there for awhile till the flea quits crawling. Then pick it up on the end of the Q-tip and stick it onto a sheet of sticky lint pick-up paper. Its a slow process and you won't get the flea eggs that way. I got some capsules from the vet called "Capstan" that kills the fleas in 2 hours. Then I changed my monthly flea and tick med to a stronger one and that was the end of the problem. You have to clean everything in the house where there could be eggs. Its a big process. Good luck.
