Pomeranian's as outside dog

Can a Pomeranian live outside during all times of the year? The state is Missouri and they would have a kennel with a well insulated dog house as well as a crate in the laundry room if it gets too cold, a heated water bowl, plenty of blankets. The kennel will be covered and the windy side will be tarped off.

outside!

Hey people...this sounds crazy.. I live on 5 acres on Canada. We are at minus 20 celcius right now.. My pom stays in at night in the winter but decides in the morning if he will stay outside or not. I feed him outside only. Its his choice. If he stays outside he has a heated dog house. He also has a Shepard Collie cross older sister. Who also sleeps inside at night now that her sister has moved on. All I am saying is Pom's can be a lot tougher than we give them credit for. Smart to decide when to stay outside and smart enough to stay close to the door when the coyotes are howling. Last note.. i never thought i would want a small dog.. told my wife that.. she brought him home for a trial. Now, I love this dog and would do anything for him. :)

Well I love my Noodles! a pomerainian and the little guy loves the outdoors. Right at this very moment I cannot get him to come inside. I have tried for about 3 hours now. He does this all the time he plays game with me I think. Well I am going to call my vet to see what she says but for the life of me I can't seem to get him to come in. He loves to be outdoors. I also have a beagle and the beagle comes right back in. But the pom forget it so what is a person suppose to do! I guess I will have to put him on a tie-out next time so I can get him back in when I want him to come in. He's driving me crazy out there worrying but he seems fine everytime I go check on him and it is really cold. So actually I think it depends on maybe their personality cause he wants out all the time.

Stop being sooo dramatic!

Yes, you can keep him outside! Just make sure he has a warm home and bed when it's cold and make sure he keeps fresh when it's hot! I have a Pomeranian and a Rottweiler and they prefer to stay outside than inside. Yes, they like to hang out in my house for a little bit, but once they spent some time with us, they walk out their doggie door and don't come back until morning.

I think we all need to stop treating our pets like babies and remember that they are dogs! You know at one time their "ancestors" were wild animals. I'm not saying don't love or pamper your dogs, but just remember they are NOT babies!

Read the question!!!!

The person is asking if a Pomeranian is able to live outside not if you think its cruel or sad or if squirrels will eat it..

Why is it so hard to reply with a simple answer? Im sure the person who wants to keep it outside has perfectly good reason, maybe someone in the household has allergy's or they want an outdoor dog that is small...

All you needed to say was if Pomeranians are able to withstand the cold and if their fur is sufficiant for colder climates being a descendant from alaskan husky's..

Just Crazy

I could never even imagine my Teddy outside, he is a part of my family. Anyways, why is outside an option for you?

Are you crazy?

My vet said never let my pom out of my sight outside..They are so small, a large bird could swoop down and grab them up and eat them!..There are squirrels, opossums, rats, and all sorts of other animals outside at night that could harm a pom if not protected..I don't even let my Rottweiler out at night!..Why have a pom if you can't enjoy it INSIDE your home?..Give it up!..You can't be serious!

Why are you a dog owner?

Squirls are bigger than my pom. I would NEVER leave my pom unattended. Keeping a pom outside is very selfish. Poms are lovable and need to feel wanted. You might want to consider giving your Pom up for adoption.

Poms not outside dogs
by: Anonymous

MY two poms are my babies I would never even think to leave them outside alone for 5 min never mind keeping them outside all the time. Pom's should never ever be left outside did you ever think of what kind of other animals roam the night.

POM - not a winter dog
by: Lisa Courville

That is just not an option with me and my dog Coco and I sleep so much better when I have her on my bed and covered with a blanket. Please reconsider and why would you want to keep your POM outside.

Oh no!

A pom appears to have enough fur to keep them nice and warm all year long BUT they don't.They're extremely prone to getting a chill. My little girlie will shiver sometimes in the middle of the summer...she'd freeze to death if she were left out in the cold!! These dogs are meant to be inside.

Please think about making her a part of the family and not banishing her to what could possibly harm her.

thats just silly

I don't see the point of having an outside dog, my dog is a member of the family and is treated as such. Horses are outside animals.
