Prednisone and my pom

A friend suggested that I join a forum and ask my question. I have a 1.5 year old male Pomeranian. He has allergies pretty bad, but for the most part can be controlled by fish oil and benedryl. Recently, he was digging/scratching at his ear and shaking his head side to side, I took him to the vet and they swagger his ear, there was blood in the ear canal from scratching, the only answer seemed to be prednisone (5mg) for 9 days tapering back every 3 days. My question is; he is having the normal side effects, drinking/eating more which leads to urinating more, but two days into the Meds he started with the worst smelling gas imaginable, and his stools are very loose, not liquid just moosh. He eats all his food and has not vomited. He does burp a few times after sucking down a lot of water. I called my vet and he said dogs can be affected in different ways, but it wasn't a common side effect. Has anyone else experienced this with their dog on prednisone. I have sent thousands of dollars with this poor pup with allergies and stomach issues with food, that now that he's been doing well without the stomach for about 6 months, I'm concerned the prednisone is doing this. Please help. I can't afford another vet visit.
