Prior Surgery a Problem for my Pomeranian?

My 3 year old pom had surgery on a broken leg when he was 2 1/2 mths. For the past 2 days he's been whining and crying like something is hurting him. He'll just be laying down and all of a sudden he'll start crying. He has had an episode like this before and what ever it was it just went away in a matter of days. I was wondering if maybe it can be the leg he had surgery on could his bones be hurting him cuz he did have pins in that leg. Has any one had or is having this same issue I would appreciate a response.
