Slick Floors

We got a one year old pomeranian yesterday and she is terrified of floors that aren't carpeted. I have to pick her up to go outside to the bathroom. I know it's only been one day and she needs time to adjust but what can we do to help her be more comfortable? She will get used to them, right?

i have a female pom...she is 3 ..i got her when she was 11 mos..she did the same thing...refused to walk on uncarpeted floors...she still does it..she runs real fast on carpet, and stops dead before she gets to the end...she is so funny...she walks very slow across the kitchen floor..

Yes she will get used to them. My Pom is 2 yrs old. It's so cute to watch her on the uncarpeted floors. She takes her time, but she enjoys them. I sometimes think she can tell how cute I think it is to watch her slip around while we are playing chase around the house and she slips through the uncarpeted areas. :) You'll really enjoy her. This is my 1st Pom and I love it!

your new dog

I would suggest using treats to coax her into the area with no carpet. It has only been one day and she will need to adjust, but using a treat to help her along might be the trick.

I would suggest taking a treat to the dog and let the dog sniff it. Then go to the un-carpeted area and sit down and call to the dog. Don't call the dog more than twice. If the dog doesn't respond..get up walk away and ignore the dog for a while. Try again by letting the dog sniff the treat..and wait patiently. Again do not call the dog more than twice because they will associate you calling them as meant to be ignored.

Try not to pamper the dog every time by picking it up. Because you are reinforcing in the dog the fear and telling it that it's ok to be afraid and that you will always be there to pick it up.
