Strange Behavior from our 16 year old Pomeranian

Our 16 year old Pom, Taz, has always had quirky personality since we adopted him last year. But here recently he's begun just lying under my bed and making strange noises that are almost, but not quite, as if he's growling - for hours. I'll coax him out and see if he needs water or to use the bathroom, which he usually doesn't because he does this specific little dance in front of me to catch my attention when he wants outside. We asked a previous owner who had owned Taz when he was much younger and said Taz had never done anything like that in the time he owned him.

Is this typical behavior in older Poms? Taz is the first Pomeranian we've ever owner and I'd appreciate any word of advice or pointing me to where I can catch a clue. Thank you.

Is there are reason to ask about Alaska or Florida? Taz was born in Arkansas as far as I know.

Is your Pomeranian from Alaska, or Florida, by chance?

Our dog is 13 now and we can see that it is aging fast...doesn't hear well...walks slow..sleeps alot and other little things. Also when she sleeps she now makes soounds like snoring mixed with gargling. Maybe your dog just likes to crawl under there to sleep now and makes those kind of noises too. My dog sometimes likes to crawl under the blanket to lick its feet and "wash up" in the morning wee hours. They get goofy when they get old...be prepared.
