Strange Pomeranian behavior

I have a 7 year old female pom. Over the last year this has happened three times of which I've taken her to a vet and they can't find anything wrong. She is perfectly fine and then all of a sudden she starts panting very hard, she refuses to leave her sleeping box, she starts walking backwards and refuses to eat.It appears that she can't have a bowl movement and she has the shakes. This goes on for a few days and then suddenly it stops and she's fine.
I took her to the vet last time who did blood work and xrays and sent us home finding nothing. Is my dog in distress or going crazy?

Strange Pom behavior
by: MK

We have a 7 year old Pom and just found out he has allergies to dairy, chicken and turkey. Guess what the main ingredients in his food have been for the last 7 years - yup, all of the above... We have him on a salmon based diet now and things have become much better. Try switching their diets. Our new vet told us that runny poop can be an indication of food allergies, so keep an eye on what is they have ingested when they have runny poop.

My 5 yr old pomeranian does the same thing!

I have taken him to the vet, and they can't find anything wrong with him--but when they grab his stomach area he screams...yet x-rays show nothing. It seems to be cyclic. He will be fine for 6 weeks or so, and then all of a sudden you know he's sick again, because he hides under the bed, won't eat, won't really drink, shakes all the time and pants like he is in distress. Honestly every time he gets "sick" like this I think he is going to die. I hand feed him water off of my hand b/c that's the only way he will really take it. He won't eat anything!! Yet, he goes outside (when I carry him) and he has loose diarrhea (hasn't really had any food, but is able to poop something out). This has happened about 4 times since I've gotten him. Eventually he will snap out of it, eat normal, run around and play again. I really think it has something to do with his diet. I just bought some holistic, all-natural food for him. I hope this helps. He is in his "sick cycle" right now and won't eat it yet. I was so relieved to see your post and know that he's not the only one.

Shaking
by: Anonymous

Have you had your dog checked for heart problems? Does she have a murmur or arrhythmia? That shaking could e related to the heart and something called syncope. (or probably a million other things.... sorry to scare you with the heart)

Strange Pomeranian Behavior

When your dog does this and you said it can't have a bowel movement...and after awhile all is fine again...does it have a bowel movement and THEN all is fine? Is it constipated? If s,o try to put some olive oil onto its favorite food and that would keep it more loose. Careful...too much and it will doo-doo all over. Poop can't be held when that starts to work. But watch the bowel habits close to see if that could be the problem. I'm sure there is a physical reason...dogs don't just go crazy...Mary
