What is the standard stud fee, and should the studs family just get a free puppy? Seems to me the female's family should get more, and not just give a puppy away for nothing. What is the standard? Thanks.
If not for the male you would have no pups, so the male (stud) has pick of the litter. If you dont like that idea then its best to negotatiate before and pay up front a stud fee. I have stud males and its unreal how some folks that bring in dams dont realize that my males go through stress and its 3-4 days of mating. My boys won't eat and go through a mourning process afterwards.

stud fee varies greatly by: Anonymous
There is no "standard" stud fee. This fee can vary greatly due to pedigree, whether travel is involved, boarding fees, etc. The better the pedigree the higher the stud fee usually. I have paid anywhere from $300 to $1500. (Obviously the $1500 was a champion sire)
