What is the best food brand to feed your poms?

At the moment I'm feeding them science diet. I was told it is one of the best healthy brand to feed my poms. They didn't even recommend me Pedigree.

I wanted food to enhance their coating as well as their fur. Do you know what kind of brand I should be looking for? I was told 'Eucanuba', but I don't know. I was also told 'Showstopper'. Looking for insights here, or perhaps is 'sciencediet' good enough already?

Also, is it ok if dogs eat fruits? Slices of apples perhaps?

Dog food companies could care less about your dog. They want to make money. Owners are part of this problem as they want to buy a bag of dog food for less than $20.00. Well, you get what you pay for.
They make more money by putting cheap corn and wheat and byproducts in dog food than meat, which is what a canine eats.
Even science diet with only a few exceptions, is basically mostly corn.
The large amount of corn in our dog food, is making our dogs hog fat, and diabetic. It's also the main allergen and causes dogs to lick their feet and have skin problems. Don't believe the dogfood companies when they try to con you that corn is a vegetable. It's a grain and our dogs are not cattle, even cattle were designed to eat grasses, not the vast amount of corn that companies force feed them to make them fat for market. Not meaty, fat.

wouldn't recommend it

I wouldn't recommend Science Diet or Pedigree. I was actually dog food shopping a few days ago and read the Science Diet intregdients... first ingredient was grains - no good. Look for dog foods that have meat (beef or chicken) as the first ingredient. I can't imagine food filled with corn and other grains being healthy for a dog in the long run.
When you go shopping, browse around and purchase a brand that contains minimal amounts of grains and mostly meat. I feed mine Nature's Recipe and he really likes it. He used to eat IAMS, but for some reason doesn't enjoy the flavor anymore. Shop around and you will find something that your dog enjoys that is also healthy for him.
And yes, it is okay to feed them fruits and vegetables (NO grapes though!)... just don't do it too much. It seems to give my dog poop issues (plugs up his butt so he has trouble pooping if he eats too many fruits/vegetables).

Commercial foods
by: Natasha

Hi there!

I also have a pom that I feed royal canin to. To be honest, commercial foods in general are not good for your dog. My pom seems to hate royal canin. I'm currently trying to find a safe raw meat diet for her. But if you're going to stick with kibble, royal canin is supposed to be one of the bests. However, I know it has a tendency to cause dry skin. Hope this helped.
