What's Wrong With My Pomeranian?

I got Candy two weeks ago at a pet store and well Candy has a problem with biting. I know she's teething and we have plenty of toys and rawhide bones, but she just loves to bite my toes and my hand, and a couple times she bit my face, i say no and put her down but she just keeps playing and biting more and growling until i pick her up. I'm scared she's going to grow up and thinking biting someone is playing. Another problem is she HATES when i brush her hair, she completely snaps at me. Like she starts biting and growling and flipping out of my arms and twists and turns, and i need to brush her, i mean come on, shes a Pomeranian, they need LOTS of grooming. And when i put any type of dog wipes on her to make her smell better and clean her she does the same thing and runs away and bites me.

I CANNOT leave a ROOM with out her following me.
If i close the door on her , she starts barking her *** off.
And Candy usually never barks unless someone is at the door.
She's definitely too attached, i've got to do something.

I brought her a play pen for her to play in when i go to work and got her dog pads so she can pee on them and i leave them, in the pen with her food and water and toys. But when i come home, shes basically almost knocked the pen down, with **** EVERYWHERE. Its disgusting, i really need some advice, because these situations can't go on for much longer, or I'm afraid of the outcome.

Candy really is a pom. Yes, I think all pom owners can emphathise with you over what she is exhibiting as typical puppy/pom traits. Unfortunately, you really do have to be patient as candy is really just a puppy and showing she is. Persistence is the word here never let her win any tug of war, and when she has tried your patience, think how mum's deal with children because its the same, just pick her up and put her outside or in another room and leave her there for around 5 minutes. If you consistently do this she will get the message - eventually!

As far as the pen and puppy poo is concerned - again this is one of those things unfortunately, and the longer puppy's are left alone the more naughty they can be. Can someone pop in lunchtime and clean up and lay fresh newspaper down? Puppy pads are fine but you can get through them quickly. Put the radio on as well so that she can hear voices/music. Good luck, hope this helps.

Ignore

When I first brought my Pom home she whined all the time. She did not want me to leave her. She would freak out. I ignored the behavior. Don't open the door for her until she stops. Just tolerate it. It will take about a week or two until she realizes that this kind of behavior doesn't get her what she wants. Now my pom has learned other ways to tell me.
I am still working on the no play biting with her. She is the same way, she bites and when you say no she thinks I am playing with her still. But, she is getting better. My other dog, a Bichon Frise, he play bit as well when he was a puppy. It took him awhile to realize that it was not okay, so I have hope that she will learn this as well.
DO NOT REWARD BAD BEHAVIOR. If he whines, don't pick him up. If he barks at the door, don't open it, etc. That is teaching him that it is the right thing to do. No matter how annoying, DON'T hit him. Ignore it.

biting

Since I had Poppy she too bites a lot and I have followed all advice without success. I am told by my puppy socialisation class to firmly say "no" and ignore her and also to replace your fingers etc with a toy to associate her teething with a toy, I do sympathise I know how you feel but we should treat our poms like wolves instead of loving their cuteness which is hard to resist, so keep on being consistent as I am , Poppy is five months now and calming down very showly, good luck, I'm sure you will realise one day that your dog is not biting so much.

growing up
by: Tom

When Candy growls don't pick her up, it just rewards bad behavior. Ignore her until she quits, then pick her up. When our pomeranian was biting I would hold him firmly not hard just firm by the back of the neck until he calmed down, then let him go. It had to be down several times til he started listening to me. Watching The Dog Whisperer helped me pickup some tips on dogs. I wouldn't hit a dog especially in the face, they could react when ever you raise your hands around them. Be firm and consistent.

hey.. you should not tolerate them especially biting. if he's teething thats fine just give him something to bite but if not just say no or tap his mouth when he nite something. show them that your the boss and not them. when you leave your house if he cries let him cry. im sure he will stop. and after that he will learn his lesson. goodluck on your puppy.
