wierd eating habits

My 10-yr-old,7-lb female Pom, Sophie, will go for weeks--sometimes months--having to be coaxed to eat. Then all of a sudden she'll start eating like she has a hollow leg!She'll beg me to eat 5-6 times a day and nearly swallows it whole. That's where we're at right now-it's been like that all summer long. But every so often she'll stop eating altogether and become lethargic and have diahrrea and an upset stomach, I think. It'll last for 2 or 3 days and she'll be back eating either a ton of food or eating small amounts that I have to coax her to eat. Should I be concerned?
